HKDU CME Web represents China in the coming United Nations Competition
ˇ§The entries from China stand a higher chance of winning the 2007 World Summit Award in Venice, Italy this NovemberˇKˇ¨ said Ms. Elizabeth Quat, Board Member of the United Nations World Summit Award, in the China Internet Conference held in China Hotel, Beijing on 24th September 2007. Thrilled on receiving the award to represent China in the e-Health category with Dr. Tang Kuen Yan in the event, we are most encouraged to receive blessings from the China Internet Society for the coming competition. I do hope that Hong Kong Doctors Union would gain further recognition internationally when we represent
I would like to reproduce below the speech that I have prepared for the occasion in Beijing.
ˇ§Mr. Chairman, ladies and gentlemen,
I feel glorified to be able to share our joy with you here. It is our honor for the Hong Kong Doctors Union to be able to represent
There are indeed a lot of websites on the internet on health issues. With the rapid advancement of medical science and technology, we see a mission of ourselves, Hong Kong Doctors Union, to keep our doctors updated in their daily management of patients. Thatˇ¦s why our website in Continuing Medical Education (http://cme.hkdu.org) is targeted for training of doctors with evidence based medicine, and to help doctors finding the most relevant materials to keep themselves updated.
To shorten the length of time for doctors to look for the right information, we have categorized websites we believe to be authoritative according to specialties as well as nature of the sites, and we have developed powerful search engine in the web too so that medical doctors can save their precious time in updating themselves and sparing more time in looking after patients.
We have plans to further enhance our website:
1. The recorded lectures in the web will be available in Putonghua, Cantonese as well as English so that doctors with different mother tongues will be able to listen to the same medical lectures;
2. As Hong Kong is now part of China, we hope our website will be useful to all doctors in China as well. With the use of Information Communication Technology and the Internet, we foresee that doctors in Beijing, Hong Kong, even Si Chuen and other provinces can listen simultaneously to the same medical lecture;
3. If we have sufficient resources, we shall be inviting all medical journals to appear in our website, and we hope to act as a bridge between doctors in Hong Kong and China for closer collaboration for the better health of all Chinese citizens.
Cheers to the health of China and thank you!ˇ¨
As I have postulated previously, territory wide e-Health would come to Hong Kong in 10 years time. The Steering Committee on e-Health Record Sharing under the Food and Health Bureau, in which Dr. Tang Kuen Yan and Dr. Tang Wai Choi are our representatives, has started working for the development of a territory-wide infrastructure for e-Health Record sharing. Further working groups have been set up to work to return the initial recommendations to the Steering Committee by January 2008. Six proposed guiding principles for the development of e-Health Record sharing infrastructure were more or less agreed on and they are namely, (a) compelling but not compulsory record sharing; (b) community corporation institutional structure; (c) self-sustaining business operation model; (d) privacy and security of paramount importance; (e) open technical standards; and (f) building block approach. I have raised concern on the self-sustaining business operation model in the last Presidentˇ¦s message to Dr. York Chow and I hope he can convince the Government to foot the overall running costs of the system in future.
Another matter worth reporting is the endorsement by the Professional Services Development Assistance Scheme Vetting Committee of the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau on our application for the enhancement of the previously developed Continuing Medical Education (CME) Content Development and Clinical Communicator Network Platform (CCMN). We wish that by the establishment of this system, not only would members find CME at ease through our web and also find their practice more safe and comprehensive by receiving instantaneously advice and help from appropriate colleagues in times of difficulty or urgency in their clinics through the CCMN.
In parallel with this e-Health development, your Council would be most glad to organize further courses in Clinic Computer usage to help our members to face the new challenges. Please stay tune and watch out for our future announcements.
